A veritable star from the east, the irresistibly handsome Leslie Cheung is
making his first visit to Berlin, though he was here last year, on screen at
least, in Viva erotica. "My favourite roles were in Wong Kar-wai';s The Days of
Being Wild and Chen Kaige';s Farewell my Concubine," he says. "Actually, I
became a singer first and had the good luck to work with the best directors in
Hong Kong and mainland China. I just finished recording a EP which will be
released for Valentine';s Day and for the past three months I';ve been shooting
The Red Hot Lover in Shanghai with Ye Dai Yin. I started acting in the early
80s, in TV mini-series - now, we have to be more choosy, but I';m quite
optimistic about Hong Kong after the transition, in spite of the economic
recession."
Cheung has worked for John Woo and Stanley Kwan and his last Cannes entry,
Happy Together, turned out to be a box-office sensation in Japan. "I was on the
Tokyo jury and this duty should be very relaxed, compared with the tension of
representing a competing film, although there are so many reporters hanging
around. Personally, I think the oldies are the goldies - Doctor Zhivago,
Casablaca - and I do enjoy the big screen."

[color=#808000]The movie ';Central do Brasil'; (';Central Station';) by Walter Salles won the Golden Bear
for feature films that year and Leslie presented the award to the director dressed in
a traditional dark brown Chinese style costume like the long one he wore in ';Rouge';
when he met Anita for the first time in a restaurant. At Berlin, he wore a black silky
scarf around his neck as well, looking very handsome. When he arrived at the venue
for the opening ceremony of the Berlin International Film Festival there was a big
cheers from the audience seeing him dressed in tuxedo looking very handsome and
a perfect gentlemen. German ladies gathered around him and were talking to each
other:" Who is that handsome juror?!". It was his first time in Berlin and he attracted
lots of attention upon entering the venue. When all the jury members were up on
the stage, the head of the Jury panel introduced him as "The star of ';Farewell my
Concubine';", and he received a big applause. Leslie got excited and grabbed the
arm of the lady standing next to him and he hugged her. Annette Insdorf, the lucky
lady and member of the Jury, is a professor at Columbia University and a film critic
from United States. Ben Kingsley (the President of the Jury) told the audience
introducing Leslie: "He';s the actor who showed us a perfect act in ';Farewell my
Concubine';!".
During the festival Leslie volunteered as an interpreter for a journalist who wanted
to interview a Chinese actor, who spoke only Mandarin. In Berlin Leslie was
interviewed by French film critics Michel Ciment and Hubert Niogret for the eminent
French movie magazine 'ositif';!At the Berlin International Film Festival of 1998,
Stanley Kwan';s ';Hold you tight'; won more than one award at the Gay Teddy Night.
Leslie and Maggie Cheung were there to present the awards.

的特别大奖金熊奖。Leslie出席了颁奖典礼并为此片的导演颁奖。当时，

的专访。另外在柏林期间，关锦鹏导演执导的影片《愈快乐愈堕落》在
“The Gay Teddy Night”上获得了不止一个奖项，张国荣先生和张曼玉
小姐均亲临现场为其颁奖。

上次跟哥哥?面已是九八年的春天。九八年的柏林影展，他是評判之一。我呢？則是自九○年以來第一次不用為Gay Teddy Prize當評審。Teddy是愛德華的簡稱，不知由幾時開始，它也是所有未成年的小熊（玩具）的名字，而衆所周知，熊抱是基督的恩物，所以連這個由「國際同志電影節聯盟」負責在每年柏林影展頒發給優秀同志影片的獎座，都是以「泰迪」命名。
但是，「同志影片」不等於全部都是男同志影片。我記得某年在評審會議上便有女同志提出抗議，不滿她們應得的榮譽，卻會有個男性的名字？折中之計，「聯盟」便增設了新的獎項，叫Lesbian Tiger。「虎」與「熊」似乎很少並肩作戰，就是同場出現，我只能想到中國成語中的「虎背熊腰」，或許是我的英文不濟，德語更差勁，所以沒法把這四隻字的弦外之音譯得傳神，致使席上的荷、德、英、法、希臘、俄等評判們不能分享我對它的聯想-魁梧得來帶點畸形。
説回九八年的柏林影展，香港入選競賽的影片是《愈快樂愈墮落》，它在Gay Teddy Night得了好像不止一個獎，當?出席領獎的有編劇魏紹恩和女主角邱淑貞，頒獎的是哥哥，以及--從巴黎飛過來的張曼玉。之後十數人驅車前往前東柏林的一家珈琲館聊天，那地方只有幾張木椅，地板很舊，天花卻好高，哥哥坐定之後對我説：「這便是我理想中的珈琲館的樣子。」

我只是希望能收集到更多的对哥哥客观正面的报道！这一点很多国外媒体做的更好些！
